Low-budget horror films director Tulsi Ramsay breathed his last today, at the age of 77. He is known for films like ‘Veerana’ and ‘Purani Haveli’. The filmmaker died in Mumbai while coming to the hospital.

According to a family member, “He complained of chest pain and his son Deepak took him to Kokilaben Hospital. He was declared dead at the hospital. He passed away at about 2.30 am.”

The Ramsay brothers, originally the Ramsinghanis, were sons of Fatehchand U. Ramsay. They got into show business with films such as ‘Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’ (1954), ‘Rustam Sohrab’ (1963) and ‘Ek Nanhi Munni Ladki Thi’ (1970). All of them failed miserably after which idea of making horror movies struck their mind. Ramsays experimented with ‘Do Gaz Zameen Ke Neeche’ (1971), and due to a good advertisement, they got a hit they needed. The film was very low budget and made in a month with just 15 crew members.

After that, their show business gained momentum and they made more than 30 horror films in India. For a very long time, Ramsay brother ruled the industry with their horror cult movies, with a combination of erotica and supernatural.
