2018 was one hell of a ride for Bollywood. Khans gave some biggest flops of all times and some low budget movie made it big at the Box Office. The regional movies acclaimed recognition outside their region and like every other year this too was a very controversial year for the film industry. Bollywood set up a new record of giving 13 100 crore+ earning movies this year.

As the new year has started the motion picture industry is all set to break and create some new records. The first week will be dry and last year released ‘Simmba’ will remain unchallenged for this week. The Box Office for this year will open with ‘Uri- The Surgical Strike’ and ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’.

January 11-

Uri- The Surgical Strike

The first movie of 2019 by the superstar of 2018, Vicky Kaushal. After garnering attention by his performance in movies like ‘Raazi’, ‘Sanju’, ‘Manmarziyaan’ and web series ‘Lust Stories’, Kaushal is all set to impress his fans by his army officer role in ‘Uri’.

Uri’ is based on the surgical strike on terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LOC). It was carried out by the Indian Army’s special force, in response to the terrorist attack in a base camp in Uri, which killed 19 unarmed Indian soldiers. The film also shows the important roles of women in the Indian army.

Written & Directed by Aditya Dhar, produced by Ronnie Screwvala and presented by RSVP movies. ‘Uri’ also stars Yami GautamParesh RawalMohit Raina and Kirti Kulhari in significant roles.

The Accidental Prime Minister

Based on the 2014 memoir by Sanjaya Baru, the film will feature  Anupam Kher as the former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh and Akshaye Khanna as a political commentator Sanjaya Baru.

The trailer became the apple of discord as soon as it was released. The political controversy started over the story and Singh’s character. With general elections just around the corner, word war started among the political parties.

The film also features Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi, Aahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi, and Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi.

January 25-

The third week of the first month will witness clashes never seen before. Emraan Hashmi will compete with Jhansi Ki Rani ‘Manikarnika’ played by Kangana Ranaut and Bal Thackeray played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. All the actors are noted for their work and it will be interesting to see the Box Office war among them.

Cheat India

‘Cheat India’ marks Emraan Hashmi’s strong comeback on the big screen after two years, with a strong performance. He was last seen on big screen in the Bollywood film ‘Baadshaho’. 

Emraan plays a grey shade character this time and his co-star Shreya Dhanwanthary is making her debut in Bollywood with this film cast opposite him. The film is directed By Soumik Sen and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Tanuj Garg, Atul Kasbekar & Parveen Hashmi (wife of Emraan Hashmi). Co-Producers of the film are Vinod Bhanushali, Sunny Khanna, Shanti Sivaram Maini, Swati Iyer Chawla, Piya Sawhney.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi

The film features Jishu Sengupta, Suresh Oberoi, Danny Denzongappa, Atul Kulkarni, Ankita Lokhande, Misti, Unnati Davera, Zeeshan Ayub, Rajeev kacharo, Nihar Pandya, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Manish Wadhwa along with Kangana Ranaut.

The film features the story of powerful “Jhansi Ki Rani”, which we all have read or heard about at some point in our life, more effectively with Kangana Ranaut’s strong performance and best-supporting cast, any film could have.

The film is produced by Zee Studios and Kamal Jain and directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi and Kangana Ranaut.

Thackeray

The film is the biopic of the legendary politician and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be seen playing the titular role. It also features Amrita Rao as Meenatai, wife of Bal Thackeray.

The film ‘Thackeray’ is directed by Abhijit Panse and written by Shiv Sena politician Sanjay Raut, who was very close to Bal Saheb.
