Our country owes its freedom to the freedom fighters, who gave their life for the future generations to live. Often, the stories and a sacrifice of many fighters remains unknown to the people of their country. One such fighter is Variyamkunnath Kunjahammed Haji. Though, his story will not remain unknown now as actor Prithviraj is set to bring it on-screen.

Director, Aashiq Abu along with Prithviraj Sukummaran are collaborating on the film. The actor himself announced this news on Monday via a post on Facebook.

Variyamkunnath is an important figure in the history of Kerela. He led the fight against the Britishers whilst using his skill as a musician and poet to attract support for the fight against the British.

The freedom fighter captured the lands of Ernad and Valluvanad Taluks, which were under British control. He was declared their ruler and their ran a Khilafat regime. The regime though, lasted only for six months as thereafter he was captured and sentenced to death by the British Army.

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s film is titled as ‘Vaariyamkunnan’ and will mark his first association with Aashiq Abu. The film is set in 1921, and will portray the Malabar revolution. Shooting is set to begin next year on its 100th anniversary.
