After an accident at her house, 81-year-old Lolita Chatterjee was admitted to a private hospital, where she passed away on 9th May, 2018. The famed Bengali actress had suffered from a massive stroke after an unforeseen fall inside her residence on Tuesday. On being admitted to the hospital, the actress was put on ventilation, but she passed away at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday.

Lolita debuted at an early age as a child artist in Ananya, back in 1949. As an adult, her first project was Bibhas, with Uttam Kumar, which was released in 1964. Her final project, which she had finished filming for, is expected to be Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s 2018 movie Jonaki, where Lolita was seen shooting alongside Jim Sarbh.

Besides starring in many famous Bengali films, Lolita Chatterjee has also taken part in 10 years’ worth of Bollywood movies, which include Victoria No. 203, and Raat Andheri Thi. Lolita also played an active role in Bengali folk theatres, also known as jatras.

After this unfortunate news was disclosed to the public, many artists belonging to the Bengali film industry turned to Twitter to express their condolences. Besides movie actors, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee also expressed tremendous sadness at Lolita’s demise. Mamata praised the actor’s forty-year long career in the movie industry, and sent her condolences to Lolita’s friends, family, and admirers.
