The makers of ‘Udham Singh: The Story of a Freedom Fighter‘ released the first look of the film’s lead actor Vicky Kaushal from Russia. Vicky can be seen sporting clean-shaven look, wearing an overcoat on the streets of Russia.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the first look of the actor on Twitter and wrote, “Here’s the first look… Vicky Kaushal in and as #SardarUdhamSingh… Directed by Shoojit Sircar… Written by Ritesh Shah and Shubendu Bhattacharya… Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar… 2020 release.”

Talking about shooting in Russia Shoojit Sircar told, “He was recognized by the Indians there. The others liked his commitment. (Chuckles) I like that too, along with his dynamism and continued attempts to experiment with different roles like Masaan, a beautiful character, and film. There is a burning intensity and anger that I saw in his eyes during our first meeting itself, that convinced me he was the right man to play Udham.”

Talking about the film, he said, “I heard the inspiring story when I was just out of college, doing theatre in Delhi. I came to Mumbai with the idea of making a film on it. I didn’t have the money or the courage or even a script. Now, with my writers Ritesh Shah and Shubhendu Bhattacharya my friends Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar, and Vicky Kaushal, one of the most dynamic young actors today, and my years of experience, I want to bring this largely unknown revolutionary alive on screen. I’m both nervous and emotional.”

The film will be a biopic based on the life of revolutionary freedom fighter Udham Singh.

The rebellious freedom fighter Udham Singh assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab of British India in 1940, to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

The film has been written by Ritesh Shah and Shubendu Bhattacharya.
