American actor-comedian Will Ferrell will be starring in a feature film adaptation of the Netflix’s 2018 documentary film The Legend of Cocaine Island, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ferrell will be also producing it with Jessica Elbaum (who produced Hustlers) and David Permut. This will be Ferrell’s second collaboration with Netflix after the upcoming comedy film Eurovision which he co-wrote, co-produced and starred in.
The documentary follows a man who learns about a buried stash of cocaine worth $2 million hidden in the Caribbean. He designs a plan to retrieve the buried item, using several misfits. It had its world premiere at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
The screen adaptation of The Legend of Cocaine Island will be written by Peter Steinfeld, who is known for writing comedy films like Drowning Mona and Be Cool. Theo Love, who directed the documentary, will serve as the executive producer along with Bryan Storkel.
Ferrell was last seen playing himself in the comedy film Between Two Ferns: The Movie, starring Zack Galifianakis. He will be next seen in the black comedy drama Downhill, directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, which is a remake of the 2014 Swedish film Force Majeure.
