Good news for the YouTube users, YouTube is planning to make all new original shows free. As the video streaming unit of Alphabet Inc’s Google wants to reach to a bigger audience for shows and movies.
YouTube premium was only available for subscribed users who paid for it. Now it will be free for everyone. It was launched three years in 29 countries.
YouTube’s paid option will still remove ads from originals as well as all other videos, and it comes with music streaming privileges. This move aims at satisfying increasing global YouTube users and it will also give the company more flexibility in marketing its programs.
According a person familiar with the thinking, some future programming or behind-the-scenes content may still remain exclusive to subscribers, if only for a brief period of time.
But previously released shows and movies will not be available free. YouTube was started in 2005 by Chad Hurley, Jawed Karim and Steve Chan as the video-sharing website. Google Inc took over the company in 2006.
