Theatres are opening up again and to show support towards exhibitors, Yash Raj Films is not going to release their films on digital platforms. They will release them only in theatres during this turbulent time for the industry. As a result, they are contemplating and might release Bunty aur Babli 2 this year on Christmas.
Yes! You read this correctly. Aditya Chopra, head of Yash Raj Films and the producer behind the film is thinking about doing this. A source close to the film talked to Mid-Day and revealed :
“With theatres expected to be up and running, filmmakers have begun zeroing in on release windows for their movies. Considering Bunty Aur Babli 2 is a light-hearted con caper, the makers feel it would be an ideal festival outing. The Christmas window is empty after the team of Ranveer Singh’s 83 decided to push its release to 2021. However, the talks are at a nascent stage. They will decide in the coming weeks.”
Nothing is official as of yet but should this happen, then the exhibitors and audience have something to cheer about this year. This year on June 26, 2020, the film would have hit the theatres, had it not been for COVID-19.
With Aditya Chopra planning to release the film on Christmas, hope is still there for the audience to catch the film in theaters this year.
Debutant director, Varun V. Sharma is helming the film which stars Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and debutant Sharvari.
It is going to be a sequel to the 2005 hit Bunty aur Bubli which starred Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rani Mukherjee. In the sequel, Rani is the sole member of the original film to again star in the sequel too.
