Zakir Khan, Kaneez Surka and Kenny Sebastian were seen in a fun conversation with Anupama Chopra at Film Companion on June 25, 2019. The interview not only focuses on their opinions but also about some other important things as #Metoo movement and the changes that came after it in their industry and also how the new bunch of students on Comicstaan are different from the previous ones.

The conversation also shifts to AIB’s roast and what changes it brought in their industry and how the audience in India is not much open and accepting. Kenny tells that he doesn’t do comedy on religion, not because he doesn’t want to, but because his audience doesn’t receive it in the same way.

Zakir talks about his experience and the criticism around Sakht Launda. He clarifies that he is expressing his story and will not address himself as a girl obviously. He also claims that he will be okay if the perspective from other gender comes in the form of comedy as well. He specifically mentions that he doesn’t support ill-treatment of any gender and doesn’t intend to do it. According to Zakir, the response in standup comedy is quick and on the spot. The trick is to make the audience laugh and then they might forget about other faults, but if they fail at this task, every other fault will also be surfaced.

Kaneez Surka talks about her experience on Comicstaan and how she was mesmerized by the students she thought wouldn’t do well. She also reveals that all of them had been paid equally on Comicstaan, which tells that gender issues are better acknowledged in their industry.

Also, the AIB roast did change things for them because the entire industry was under scrutiny after that while it didn’t have an effect on anybody else’s life.

Comicstaan Season 2 premieres July 12 on Amazon Prime Video.
