Collective efforts are required if road accidents are to be cut in half by the end of 2025: Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has stated that collective efforts are required if road accidents are to be cut in half by the end of 2025. During a 4-hour telethon and outreach initiative called “Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan” for Road Safety Week, he stated that a rule governing truck drivers’ working hours will soon be introduced in the country.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan, Sadhguru, the founder of the Isha Foundation, and many other participants had a discussion about the important issues surrounding road safety at the event. “Jeevan hai anmol yeh kabhi an bhulayenge, sadak suraksha abhiyan ko hum awashya safal banayenge”, says Amitabh Bachchan in the campaign.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has launched numerous projects in the areas of engineering, enforcement, education, and emergency care in an effort to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and injuries.

To further the cause of Safer Roads for All, MoRTH conducted Road Safety Week (RSW) from January 11 through January 17, 2023, under the banner of “Swachhata Pakhwada”.

In Delhi, MoRTH held a number of events throughout the week, including Nukkad Nataks, Sensitization Campaigns, Student Competitions, a Road Safety Exhibition in partnership with Businesses, Walkathons, Talk Shows, and Panel Discussions with Senior Government Officials and Business Leaders.

Additionally, road-owning organisations like the National Highways Authority of India and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. carried out special campaigns to promote adherence to traffic laws and regulations, pedestrian safety, driver eye screenings at toll booths, and other initiatives related to road engineering.

By conducting awareness campaigns, first responder trainings, ensuring strict enforcement of laws and regulations up to the grassroots levels, and conducting other activities, workshops, and advocacy programmes related to road safety, the transport and police departments of states and union territories, NGOs, private companies, and the general public across the country actively participated in the event.
