The storyline of the plays performed in Alliance Francaise is always relevant to the real life scenario with a tint of humor involved in it. It is also a place to meet like minded people where most of the guests hail from art and literature background.
Syngue Sabour (The Patience Stone), is the copyright of Atiq Rahimi which will be performed on June 26 at 6.30 pm. It is a story of a young woman in her thirties who lives with her older husband, who has been stuck by a bullet in the neck. He is abandoned by the jihads and also family members. The woman finally decides to open up and tells him about her feelings, her childhood, desires, sufferings, dreams, her loneliness and other things that had been a concern to her throughout the life. She reveals the hidden truth behind their 10 years old relationship and her expectations from him.
The husband unconsciously becomes Syngue Sabour, which, according to Persian mythology, when placed in front of a person shields her from unhappiness, suffering, pains and miseries. The woman then longs for her husband to come back to life. She struggles to lead the life and finally finds the refuge in her aunt’s place who is a prostitute by profession. The woman seeks to free herself from suffering through the words that she delivered audaciously to her husband. During her search for him, she starts a relationship with a young soldier and the story continues…
