It originated in the district of Pratpagarh of Rajasthan but has always been a part of Pink City’s cultural heritage. Its existence can be dated back to 400 years, during the Mughal period. The handiwork basically involves the embossing of gold sheets on colored glass material. When the working surface is ready, different designs are carved onto it, usually done with a free hand. After this the excessive gold is removed and the piece maybe encased.

The designs range from mythological characters to mughal court scenes and from representations of historical events to flowers. Most of the embellished pieces that are sold have some significant religious entity.
