Microsoft is rumored to launch new versions of its Surface products later this year with new and upgraded features. The rumored Surface Book 3 promises to be better than its predecessors.
According to IT Tech site Petri, “Microsoft will announce a next-gen Surface Laptop in October. That lines up nicely with past releases. The Surface Laptop 2 was revealed on October 2 last year and officially went on sale a few weeks later. Microsoft is pretty punctual with its annual early-October Surface events, although the launch of the first-gen Surface Laptop was revealed at Microsoft’s education event in May 2017.”
Some of the features that we might see n the new Surface Book 3 are:
Thinner bezels:
The second-gen Surface Laptop features a thick bezel that makes it look and feel unattractive as compared to its competitors like the XPS 13 or Spectre x360 13. However, Microsoft plans to do well to release the third-gen Surface Laptop with very thin bezels.
A USB-C and Thunderbolt port:
Book 2 possesses a USB-C 3.1 port, which was nice, but it wasn’t enough. And now Forbes noted, “While the second-gen Surface Laptop featured a USB 3.1 port, it didn’t have a Thunderbolt or USB-C port. Microsoft will do well to put a USB-C port as it can be used for a lot of things, including charging.”
Other Specifications:
Regarding specs, the Surface Laptop 3 is expected to support either 8th Gen or the new 10th Gen “Ice Lake” Intel CPUs, with Core i5 and Core i7 options. Although, again, nothing has been confirmed on that front.
Another interesting rumor surfacing the internet is that Microsoft will be selling an AMD-powered version of the Surface Laptop 3. This would be a first for the Surface lineup. According to Petri, AMD will bring a 12-nanometer SoC codenamed Picasso that introduces a Zen+ Core with Vega graphics to at least one Surface Laptop 3 configuration.
The price of Surface Book 3 hasn’t been officially released yet however it might start around $1,200 and might end around $2,500. As for the release date, it might be releasing later this year in the month of October.
