Amazon’s Smart Speaker ranger, Alexa based Echo has made an establishment in the Indian Market

Amazon’s Echo line-up has stirred up the Indian Market, the smart speakers’ category in India grew 43% in the 2nd quarter this year, an International Data Corporation (IDC) report said on Friday.

The company’s Echo range of smart speakers, led the category with 59% market share, closely followed its market rival Google for the 2nd position, stated IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Smart Home Device Tracker.

“Although the initial usage of smart speakers are currently limited to few use cases as the smart homes market is at a very nascent stage in India, we are seeing signs of it growing beyond entertainment,” Navkendar Singh, Associate Research Director, IDC India, said in a statement.

Dominating & standing at the top

The Indian Smart Home market which included of smart lights, smart speakers, connected thermostats, smart TVs, security system, screen mirroring devices, and other connected devices for homes, saw a booming year over annual growth of 107% to reach at 1.4 million shipments in the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Video entertainment section which includes smart TVs, streaming sticks and set-top boxes grew 81% year over year, and the category continues to lead the top with 855 unit share within the list of various other smart home products.

Rivals also in the field

Xiaomi, which walked in the smart TV market in the 1st quarter of 2018, tripled its shipments in the 2nd quarter, IDC said.
