Apple today updated its popular MacBook Air with a True Tone display and lowered its starting price from $1,199 to $1,099 in the United States, or $999 for qualifying students through Apple’s education store.
“College students love the Mac — it’s the notebook they rely on from the dorm room to the classroom, and the No. 1 choice among higher education students,” said Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac Product Marketing. “With a lower $999 student price for MacBook Air and the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro with faster performance, Touch Bar and Touch ID at $1,199 for students, there’s never been a better time to bring a Mac to college.”
MacBook Air will be sold with the same configurations as before which are starting with 128 gigabytes of storage, but most importantly Apple updated the screen with new TrueTone technology. This means that it sets the colors on the screen to match the lighting of the room for a more comfortable viewing experience. It also includes the updated keyboard design that Apple first launched with the updated MacBook Pros in May. It should further help to prevent some of the sticky key problems experienced in Apple’s MacBooks. However, this is not the full keyboard refresh that’s rumored to ship with an entirely new keyboard configuration.
