Dell

Dell, the American multinational computer technology company, had filed a patent for “Information Handling System with Multiple Detachable Displays” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent was approved on January 3 by the U.S authority. The filing reveals a laptop design with two detachable screens that can be connected to the keyboard through a magnetic strip. the two displays can be connected with the device using display ports.

Various laptop manufacturers have been selling 2-in-1 laptop-tablet hybrid device but none has gone so far as to include two detachable screens from the system. The 2-in-1 devices so far basically act like a tablet that you can connect with a keyboard in order to gain the laptop experience.

This new design from Dell could be considered innovative considering how you can use two screens for a wider viewing experience or turn the other screen backward when showing a presentation. The content on the screen can be mirrored or extended to be covered on both the screens.

For portability, the screens can be arranged on either side of the keyboard like a sandwich. The patent doesn’t give any information on the size of the device, however, knowing it has dual screens it can be assumed to be quite heavy.

Dell has been ahead on innovation when it comes to laptop lately as the company as recently launched world’s first laptop that could be charged wirelessly. Dell’s 7285 2-in-1 laptop can be charged wirelessly. However, you would need to buy the wireless charging keyboard and charging mat combo along with the tablet itself.

Companies are known to file different design patents so they could launch devices that are innovative and stay relevant. However, not all the approved patents do actually make it to production. It would be interesting to see if Dell follows up on this idea.
