The iPhone 12 series was launched by Apple which consisted of iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Among these, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max came with LiDAR sensors. But this might change with iPhone 13 series which is getting launched in 2021.

According to a report by Digitimes, all the models in the iPhone 13 series are expected to arrive with LiDAR sensors. The iPhone 13 series is tipped to include Direct Time-of-Flight (D-ToF) technology. The sensors will be provided by a US-based company known as II-VI, that will enter Apple’s supply chain for the next-generation iPhone models. According to the report, the firm will manufacture VCSEL chips that will be used in ToF LiDAR sensors for Apple.

The report also states that the rear camera setup of iPhone 13 will be a bit different from the 2020 counterpart because it is likely to have more number of holes. The number of lenses will remain the same but the number of sensors are expected to increase. The complete effect of this change will be that iPhone 13 will arrive with an improved 3D sensing module.

The report also added that Apple will streamline VCSEL chip in the front camera setup and the 3D sensing capabilities of the phone might improve dramatically, which also consists of decreasing the volume of the structured light 3D sensing module, that is, the notch.

At last, the report quoted Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis, Tim Long and Thomas O’Malley and said that the iPhone 13 series might get Wi-Fi 6E which will provide the features and functionaries of Wi-Fi 6 and extending to the 6GHz frequency band. The report added that it will provide higher bandwidth with less interference for Wi-Fi 6E-enabled devices.
