Apart from being a telecom operator in India, Reliance Jio is also providing broadband plans, services, apps and 4G-run feature phones so that everyone can enjoy their services. However, the rumour about Jio launching Android smartphones is about to become a reality by the end of this year.
Jio has planned to manufacture over 100 million budget smartphones and are expected to be released in the market by the end of 2020 or early 2021. The smartphones would run under Android operating system and will come with various data plans. Sources have stated that Jio has an aim to make India ‘2G-Mukt’ and convince them to switch to 4G network.
It must be mentioned that Google announced their partnership with Jio at the 2020 Google For India event and by collaborating with each other, they are planning to launch affordable 5G smartphones. Google has also invested around $4.5 billion for this partnership. However, there is no confirmation about whether or not the phones launched in this year would support 5G.
At present, Jio has two 4G-based feature phones – JioPhone and JioPhone 2. Both the phones run on KaiOS which is based on Linux. The phones support HD calling, Jio apps, WhatsApp, Facebook, Voice Assistant and Jio plans with unlimited data and free voice calling. The entry of Jio in the world of budget smartphones would definitely give a tough competition to leading brands like Samsung, Xiaomi and Realme. This will also help to convince people regarding the idea of purchasing products that are made in India.
