Microsoft launches Surface and Surface Book 2 in India

    • Microsoft has officially announced the launch of 2 laptops- Microsoft Surface and Microsoft Surface book 2 for the Indian market. It has taken Microsoft Surface well over a year to come into the Indian markets after its launch in June last year. The surface laptop starts from ₹86,999 and the Surface 2 starts from ₹1,37,999. Both premium laptops will be available across both online and offline retail stores.

    Basic specifications

    Microsoft’s Surface Laptop runs Windows 10S, which is much faster than the regular Windows 10. The unique feature of the 10S is that it can only run apps from the Windows Store, which are verified by Microsoft.

    The base version is powered by Intel Core i5 Intel HD Graphics version along with Intel HD Graphics 620. Surface Laptop sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense Display, with 2256 x 1504 pixels resolution, which comes to 201 PPI. The display supports 10 point multi-touch and has a 3:2 aspect ratio. It also supports the Surface Pen.

    Dimensions of this Surface Laptop are 308.1 mm x 223.27 mm x 14.48 mm, and it weighs 1.252 grams. On the connectivity front, it has 802.11ac Wi-Fi wireless networking; IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible, USB 3.0 port, headset jack, Mini DisplayPort, supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Surface Connect port and is compatible with Surface Dial and the Surface Dock as well. Microsoft has promised 14 hours of battery life with the laptop. It also has an Alcantara covering over the keyboard for a more premium look.

    Surface Laptop comes with Windows Hello face the sign-in camera, 720p HD camera (front-facing) and stereo microphones. Surface laptop has Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Audio Premium below the keyboard. It weighs just 1.25 kilograms and is less than 14.5 mm thin.

    Surface Book 2 is a touch-screen laptop that was launched in October 2017. Furthermore, it has a PixelSense Display and is powered by the Intel Core i7 8th generation processor. Microsoft is promising 17 hours of battery life with this laptop. Microsoft says Surface Book 2 is the premium device in their series. It comes in the 13.5-inch and 15-inch variants with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage space. It also has the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050/1060 GPU on Core i7 models.

    Surface Book 2 can be detached from the keyboard and used entirely as a tablet. It has an improved dynamic fulcrum hinge, which supports the laptop in its various modes. The device features a fulcrum hinge, a backlit keyboard and both the USB Type-A and USB Type-C ports. Microsoft claims to offer a 17-hour battery life. Similarly like the Surface laptops, it features the surface pen.

    All the variants of the Microsoft Surface Book 2 have connectivity options in Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth BT4.1 LE, Xbox Wireless built-in (in 15-inch models), two USB 3.0 Type A ports, and one USB Type-C port. Additionally, there is UHS-II SDXC card reader, one 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 Surface Connect. It features a 5.0-megapixel front-facing camera with 1080p HD video, and another 8.0-megapixel rear-facing autofocus camera with 1080p Full HD video, dual microphones, and front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby Audio Premium.
