OnePlus is rolling back the OxygenOS Open Beta update for OnePlus 5 and above smartphones that the company recently started seeding. According to the company, the reason for the rollback is the update not being installed on some OnePlus 5 and 5T users. Moreover, some users who managed to install the update faced an issue where their devices were bricked and unable to boot. The update of OnePlus 6 and 6T turned out to be the same more or less and the company, in a precautious step, decided to halt the update for now.
“We have received reports of OTAfailure and Device not powering on after updating to the latest open beta builds on OnePlus 5 and 5T, based on these reports we had paused the OTA update,” OnePlus’ Global Product Operations Manager with username Manu J wrote in the forum post on Wednesday.
The users who have received the new update should hold off from flashing it to their handsets. For those users who have already flashed their phone with the new OxygenOS Open Beta update and are facing issues, OnePlus recommends having your phone checked out at an authorized service center.
The new Open Beta update is the same for every pone and brings the same features to all four devices. As we had reported, the update brings an optimized screenshot function and enables quick reply to messages when in landscape mode. The quick reply is aimed at making messaging easier while watching a video or playing games. The update also optimizes gaming mode and the OnePlus Laboratory was also included with the update. Both, OnePlus 6 and 6T now support world clock with weather information.
The company had introduced a system-wide dark mode in the Shelf dashboard along with enhancements to slow-motion for OnePlus 6 with OxygenOS Open Beta 8 update back in December.
The Open Beta is not likely to affect a lot of OnePlus users since the rollout was in stages.
