Sony Electronics has just unveiled its USB-C hub that includes card readers for UHS-II SD and microSD cards. There are plenty of hubs that can access memory cards, but they claim is the world’s fastest UHS-II SD/microSD card reader and USB Hub with USB 3.1 Gen 2. It further has up to 100W USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and HDMI output capability support.

The MRW-S3 can read data off UHS-II cards at speeds up to 300MB/s which is typically the speed only pro photographers and videographers need this kind of speed.

“The world’s fastest UHS-II SD and microSD card reader handles everything from high-resolution RAW image files to 4K videos and allows the user to maximize their creativity affording more time to spend on retouching and editing content,” said Sony.

One important feature to note of the MRW-S3 are a USB-C and a USB-A port that they comply with USB 3.1 Gen 2 for data transfers up to 1000MB/s.

Sony has also announced new UHS-II SD cards:

“The SF-M TOUGH specification SD card is the world’s toughest UHS-II SD card that is 18x stronger than a standard SD card and has the highest-grade waterproof and dustproof levels. Even in extreme shooting conditions, your work is protected so you can focus on the job at hand. Additionally, a new conventional UHS-II SD card “SF-E” series will be introduced to provide users with a wider range of choice. It has fast transfer speeds of up to 270MB/s read and 120MB/s write.”

The MRW-S3 is set to launch in “Fall 2019” and its price is yet to be decided.
