Vaio will make its comeback to India on 15th January. The new laptops of Vaio will be available for purchase throughout the country via Flipkart. The brand was popular in the Indian market once upon a time for its sleek and colourful laptops and it quietly exited India a few years ago. Nexsto Company, which is based at Hong Kong and sells Avita laptops at India and global markets is reviving the Vaio brand through a license agreement with Japan’s Vaio Corporation. It is manufacturing, selling, marketing and serving Vaio laptops at Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Middle East.

The Vaio laptops that are entering the Indian market have been claimed to be premium and intelligently-crafted and offers “exceptional” quality. But the brand has not unveiled the specifications or features of the new models. Seema Bhatnagar, Regional Business Director, South Asia, Vaio said in a press statement about the brand’s comeback stating that they are looking forward to become the top choice for laptop buyers across the country.

Flipkart has also made a microsite for teasing the launch of the new Vaio laptops in the country. The microsite offers us a sneak peek at the design of the upcoming range and says that the laptops will have a lightweight build.

Sony introduced Vaio as its PC subsidiary in the year 1996. It was able to attract consumers with its thin models at a time when the market was full of bulky and thick laptops. The brand was also recognized for its 2-in-1 and hybrid models. But, Sony found it hard to survive in the PC market and sold the brand to an investment firm known as Japan Industrial Partners in February 2014. The step took Vaio away from India and global markets.

The launch of Vaio comes between a growing laptop market in the country because of the Covid-19 pandemic which has made working from home a necessity for everyone. A recent report by International Data Corporation (IDC) states that the PC market of India saw a 9.2 percent year-over-year (YoY) growth in the third quarter of 2020. The market has been dominated by traditional players like HP, Lenovo and Dell for some time and new entrants like Xiaomi are increasing their lineups to find new Indian consumers.
