Xiaomi is the world’s third-largest smartphone maker and has recently revealed the “Mi Air Charge Technology” and said that it can deliver 5W power to different devices within a radius of several metres because the Chinese giant invited customers to a true wireless charging era. Xiaomi said that it has developed an isolated charging pile that has built-in five phase interference antennas and can exactly detect the location of the smartphone.

A phase control array consisting of 144 antennas transmits millimeter-wide waves directly to the phone through beamforming and the company also said that in the upcoming future, the system will be able to work with smartwatches, bracelets and other wearable devices. A company spokesperson also said that Xiaomi, which introduced 80W and 120W wireless charging technology will not deploy this system to its products this year.

The company said that Xiaomi has made a miniaturized antenna array that has a built-in beacon antenna and receiving antenna array. Beacon antenna can broadcast position information with less power consumption. The receiving antenna array is made up of 14 antennas that converts the millimeter wave signal emitted by the charging pile into electric energy through the rectifier circuitĀ  to change the sci-fi charging experience into reality.

At present, the remote charging technology of Xiaomi is capable of 5-watt remote charging for one device within a radius of several metres. Along with that, many devices can also be charged at the same time and each device supports 5 watts and physical obstacles cannot decrease the charging efficiency. XDA Developers also reported recently that a Motorola executive demonstrated a prototype remote charging system that looks to deliver power over the air. There is no conformation on when this technology will come to devices.
