Xiaomi Mi 9

Xiaomi is expected to unveil its flagship smartphone, Mi 9, soon in China and a few official renders got leaked today giving us a glimpse of the smartphone. The images come directly from the company’s CEO Lei Jun, which he shared on the Chinese social media site Weibo, so their authenticity can be vouched for. Separately, Xiaomi’s senior vice president Xiang Wang also shared the official renders of the Mi 9.

Taking a look at the images, there are a couple of things that stand out. The most prominent feature of the phone seems to be its triple camera module at the back, which is an improvement over the last year’s flagship. The setup is reported compromise be compromised of a 48MP primary camera, a 12MP secondary sensor, and a ToF sensor.

The design of the phone seems to be impressive as well. According to Jun, the Sky Blue Variant of the Mi 9 will reflect different colors of a rainbow depending on the angle and the color of the light that hits it. The phone has been designed with nano-scale laser holography process with a double-layer coating to achieve such a unique color.

One of the renders shows the front side of the device revealing the waterdrop notch that has been reported earlier. The back of the device, however, does not show a fingerprint scanner, which suggests that the smartphone will come with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi has already confirmed the launch of the Mi 9 on February 20 in China. Xiaomi is also hosting an event at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona on February 24. The company is expected to globally launch the Mi 9 at this event along with its foldable phone, the teaser of which was surfaced online recently. Xiaomi is also expected to showcase the 5G variant of the Mi Mix 3 at the event.
