Xiaomi

Xiaomi is apparently looking to take on Samsung in terms of smartphone designs. Samsung is the smartphone manufacturer known to launch smartphones with curved displays which the company started with its Samsung Galaxy Note Edge smartphone back in 2014. The Note Edge had a curved display on one side of the screen, which was followed by Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge which had curved edges on both the left and the right side of the screen. Samsung has since implemented the curved screen on every version of its flagship Galaxy smartphones.

The curved display has kind of become Samsung’s patent design but now it seems like Xioami wants to one-up Samsung by introducing a smartphone with edges on all four sides. The Chinese OEM has just patented this design at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). According to the diagrams, first spotted by LetsGoDigital, Xiaomi will either include the front camera under the display or forego it altogether because the diagrams do not show any front-facing camera. The rear panel does show a pair of cameras and an LED next to it, while the bottom panel shows a Type-C port.

It should be considered that not all the patent design make it into production and sometimes the company just ends up ditching the idea, nevertheless, Xiaomi might be looking forward to introducing a device in order to counter the likes of Meizu Zero and Vivo Apex(2019). Even if Xiaomi does not make this smartphone for commercial use, it might launch the device as a limited edition to maintain the market presence.

Xiaomi has made its name as a trustworthy brand when it comes to smartphones, especially in India, which is reported to be the largest foreign market for Xiaomi all over the world. And now the company is focusing on innovation in order to have a monopoly on the smartphone market. Xiaomi was recently seen releasing a video where the company showed its prototype of a foldable smartphone and now a patent is out which diagrams of what seems to be a seamless smartphone.
