2019 is gearing up to be one of the most innovative years in term of smartphone design and form factor. So far, we have seen different implementations of notches, from waterdrop to camera cut out. Some of the smartphone manufacturers even opted for the slider mechanism and pop-up selfie camera in order to avoid the notch altogether. However, the notch is no longer the industry trend as more and more smartphone manufacturers are moving towards a flexible future. Samsung and Huawei have already showcased their respective foldable smartphones at CES this year, both of which are expected to go up for sale later this year. Xiaomi, too, had showcased its foldable smartphone in a teaser video, hinting at a double fold design. Nevertheless, the company did not reveal anything else apart from the looks of the device. Now, the company has put out a second teaser of its double folding smartphone to keep anticipations on the high.
The folding phone concept from Xiaomi reveals two creases, allowing double folds on the smartphone. Earlier this year, the smartphone was teased by a senior executive of the company, who was seen using the device in various form factors. Now, Xiaomi has posted another video of the device on its official Weibo channel. The teaser does not get into many details, nevertheless, the animation seen when the smartphone is transitioned from a larger footprint to a smaller form factor seems a bit smoother and refined compared to the earlier video. Moreover, the video also shows a USB port at the bottom of the device.

The advantage of the folding device from Xiaomi is that it has a convenient and compact design which seemingly makes it a great device to use with a single hand. Xiaomi’s foldable device is highly anticipated in the tech market chiefly because of the company’s aggressive pricing strategy. The Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X are priced around $2000 mark, Xiaomi’s offering, however, is expected to be much cheaper.
