On midnight of September 12, 2020 police raided a hotel in Goa where illegal gambling was reported to be happening on its fifth floor.

Goa Police have arrested 42 tourists after a raid on a gambling den at Calangute beach village near Panaji, read the official statement.

The 42 tourists, who belong to Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi were booked under Sections 3 and 4 of Goa and Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.

Cash worth Rupees 10 Lakh, 57 mobile phones, chips worth Rupees 1000 each and several other materials have been seized by the North Goa Police.

ANI News reported that Police Inspector of Calangute Nolasco Raposo stated that 5,739 chips and two card swipe machines have also been seized during the raid.

Inspector Raposo also added that the police department would be writing a letter to Tourism Department and local Panchayat for taking appropriate action against hotel owner for letting his premises to be used for illegal gambling.

Police is conducting further investigation in this matter and only this much is known as of now.
