A record number of illegal gambling sites have been blocked by Denmark’s gambling regulator Spillemyndigheden.

The regulator received approval from the City Court to block 55 illegal gambling websites and directed the operators to discontinue the operations.

The City Court decreed in favour of the regulator on the basis that the people were actually using the websites which proved that these illegal gambling websites were being used by the gamblers actively.

The operators have now decided to appeal the decision before the district court.

As per Gambling Insider, Director of the Danish Gambling Authority, Anders Dorph, said: “The record-high number clearly shows there is a need for a targeted effort, and we will therefore maintain this increased focus in the future.

“One of our most important tasks is to protect players from illegal gambling. At the same time, we must ensure the providers who are licensed to offer games in Denmark can run their business under orderly conditions.”
