Police raided four separate locations in Gurugram and apprehended 9 people in total for allegedly placing bets on IPL 2020 tournaments.

The police had been eyeing these gangs for quite some time now as it was already suspicious of these bookies and punters.

Since the start of IPL 2020 season, several locations across the country have been raided for busting illegal betting rackets.

This time Gurugram Police raided 4 locations, namely, Sushant Lok, Sector 107, Sector 51 and Sector 69 and made 9 arrests in connection with IPL betting.

Preet Pal, Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP), crime, said, “We are cracking down on all such illegal operations and more arrests are likely. Probe so far has found that these bookies take bets on all such sporting activities. They mostly use encrypted communication and have a nexus with bookies at several locations. We are trying to bust the whole chain”, reported Hindustan Times (October 8, 2020).

ACP Pal further added, “Since it is a bailable offence, several accused return to gambling after they are released. It is yet to be established if the accused in these four cases have a common link or they were running independent operations. Four FIRs have been registered at respective police stations”, HT reported.

The raids were conducted at different days and at different locations from where laptops, mobile phones, LED TV, cash worth thousands of rupees has been recovered.
