The Detection Crime Branch of Mumbai Police arrested three bookies from a residential apartment on LBS Marg in Mulund West.

The police suspects that the bookies may have international links, including with the teams currently playing IPL 2020.

In a joint effort by Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) and Detection Crime Branch, Dighesh Jitendra Mehta, Piyush Jawaharbhai Aashar and Dipesh Devilal Jain were caught accepting bets in an ongoing IPL match.

41 mobile phones, several SIM cards, a smartphone tablet, two laptops, WiFi routers, SIM cards, line boxes, etc along with Rupees 1,88,500 cash was recovered by police from the possession of the accused persons.

The accused have been taken into custody till November 3 and charges have been framed under IPC, Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act and IT Act.

6 bookies were arrested from Jaipur for accepting bets in an ongoing IPL 2020 match. The police recovered Rupees 74,000from the possession of the accused persons who belonged to different parts of the country, such as Jaipur, Haryana and West Bengal.

Jaipur Police Commissioner Anand Srivastava stated that, “We received information that the bookies were running their betting operation at a farmhouse in Vishwakarma area. We constituted a team and raided the farmhouse where the accused were caught red handed while making bets on matches being played on October 29”, reported Times of India.

The police seized 58 mobile phones, four laptops, wifirouter and eight diaries that give account of transactions over Rupees 15 Crore.
