After a long wait the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 finally took off on September 19 in UAE. Within five days of start of the tournament the news about betting and gambling gangs has hit the news.
This time it is Kolkata, where the Police on receiving a tip from an informant conducted raids in Hare Street, Park Street, Jadavpur and Salt Lake areas on September 24, 2020.
In furtherance of the same, the Police arrested 9 persons for allegedly betting on an Indian Premier League cricket match that took place a day before.
The officer stated that, “The matter is being probed and we are trying to find out whether the accused persons are involved in any inter-state betting racket”.
Various documents, laptops, mobile phones, tablets and a vehicle have been seized from the possession of accused persons, who are reportedly in their mid 20s.
They would be produced before the court soon.
