Andhra Pradesh banned online gambling in the state few months ago by making amendments in the gambling law of the state.

Unhappy with the ban, few private gambling operators filed petition before High Court of Andhra Pradesh challenging the said ban.

In that reference, the High Court of AP asked the Andhra govt. to file a counter to the petition.

Seeking extension of time for filing the counter, government pleader C Suman, requested the court to consider the fact that the lawyer responsible for filing the counter is pre-occupied with Bihar election responsibilities. Hence, an extension of time should be granted.

The counsel for the petitioners, Mr. Abhishek Singhvi, however argued that sufficient time has been granted to the govt. therefore no extension shall be allowed.

The court ultimately granted few weeks to the govt. to file the counter. The date that has been fixed for filing the counter is December 6, 2020 and for hearing is December 9, 2020.
