Chennai police arrested 14 persons who were indulging in gambling from a remote area in Karambakkam, Porur, Tamil Nadu.
The accused were operating from a lodge in the area and have been identified as Kannaiya (50) of Nesapakkam, Stane Lijose (52) of Paraniputhur, Siva (41) of Virugambakam, Murugan (46) of Virugambakam, Rajesh (56) of KK Nagar, reported The News Minute.
Nine other persons were also arrested.
Police recovered Rs 1,10,380 in cash, 16 decks and tokens from the spot.
Notably, suicides due to gambling addiction are on the rise in Tamil Nadu and Madras HC has directed the state government to take appropriate steps in this regard.
