Last month, University of Colorado had entered into a corporate sponsorship agreement with sports betting company Pointsbet.

The part of the deal was Pointsbet offering to sponsors University’s college athletics events and in return getting the advertisement space and promotions.

The agreement, which has been done for 5 years is not just restricted to college playing but extends to career prospects of students in sports beyond college.

The agreement covers the entire gaming category, including free-to-play sports games, daily fantasy sports, casino, online casino, and retail and online sports betting. PointsBet is set to gain promotions and advertisement space at CU athletics making itself quite visible and prominent. PointsBet will alos receive space over radio broadcasts of CU games and other media channels.

However, the deal is attracting heavy criticism from the professors of universities, who believe that betting in college sports should not be allowed.

Casino.org reported that one of the professors who has written extensively about college sports and corruption, Declan Hill, states that, “You can’t run a nunnery out of a brothel. You can’t have two such diametrically opposite organizations in the same place.”

The Indian Wire had also reported about Harvard University alongside other universities, joining hands to register their protest against collegiate sports betting after the Bill on collegiate sports betting was being considered.

Many believe that it may compromise the sports integrity and induce corruption in sports at college level too. There are also beliefs that bettors, who might end up losing money on certain players of college level, might harass or abuse them as there is no policy covering the safety of the student players.

However, the college administration believes that this deal would open doors for the students towards a professional sports career, where students might get absorbed in internships or training sessions with different leagues or sponsors.

At this point, the University of Colorado is set to generate 1.6 million dollars from sports betting operator and future of collegiate sports betting as a whole remains a hotly debated topics.
