Connecticut has taken another step to passing sports betting legislation.
The Connecticut’s Public Safety & Security Committee drafted the complete Bill to pass sports betting legislation in the state.
It voted 24-1 on Thursday and intends to give Connecticut’s tribal nations exclusive rights to sports betting.
The Draft Bill known as SB 146 was proposed by 17 lawmakers (13 representatives, 4 senators). Under the Bill, the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribal Nations have been grated the permission to operate sports betting.
The operators would also be allowed to Connecticut Lottery to conduct online sales. This would include lottery draw game tickets and keno games. However, the final agreement with both the tribes is still pending.
As per Gambling.com, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont had earlier said that he: “looks forward to working with our tribal partners on a path forward to modernize gaming in our state, as well as the legislature on legalization of marijuana. Sports betting, internet gaming and legalized marijuana are happening all around us. Let’s not surrender these opportunities to out-of-state markets or even worse, underground markets.”
