President of DMK political party in Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin condemned Tamil Nadu government for not being prompt in banning online gambling in the state.

2 days ago, Madras HC’s Madurai bench issued notice to Tamil Nadu govt. along with Central govt. and few celebrities such as Virat Kohli, Saurav Ganguly, Tammnah Bhatia, Prakash Raj, Rana Daggubati etc. for endorsing such online fantasy games.

The Tamil Nadu govt. responded that it needs 10 days more to decide on banning of online gambling.

On this, Stalin stated that he was shocked with the utter insensitivity of the present state govt. on the issue, considering that Madras HC had asked the state to take appropriate steps in July.

Since then, more than 10 people have committed suicide due to gambling related issues in Tamil Nadu alone.

Stalin stated, “Though the suicides (of persons addicted to online gambling) is on the rise and many families are suffering, the government is not concerned about it. It is also not forthcoming to ban online gambling and the state government’s approach is disturbing”, reported Times of India.

He also urged Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to take appropriate steps in this regard.
