England to go into lockdown from Nov. 5 owing to COVID-19; betting shops, casinos directed to shut down

Prime Minister of England, Boris Johnson announced that the country would go into lockdown for the second time to battle re-emergence of COVID-19 wave.

The lockdown would come into force from November 5 and will remain operational till December 2, 2020.

In the lockdown phase, all 5,681 betting shops in England have been directed to shut down as they fall under the category of non-essential businesses.

Casinos would also be affected by such lockdown, where the losses to the gambling industry could reach in 8 figures.

However, racingĀ and other elite sports will be able to continue operating in the absence of spectators.

British Horseracing Authority called it a welcoming move considering the fact that livelihood of many people depends upon the industry.
