On December 9, 2020, FIFA and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) announced of their partnership to tackle the match fixing problem in football.

Incidentally, December 9 also happens to be International Anti-Corruption Day wherein FIFA and UNODC signed a MoU launching the campaign.

The team aims to tackle match fixing problem and raise awareness about FIFA’s confidential reporting platforms.

According to report by Gambling Insider, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “This new joint campaign between FIFA and UNODC, just a few weeks after the signing of our memorandum of understanding, is a strong message about our absolute commitment and determination to eliminating match-fixing and corruption in football.”

UNODC Executive Director Ghada Waly said: “Sports and sporting events are vital to our well-being, and they have a crucial role to play in helping our societies and economies recover from the pandemic. That is why we must work together to ensure that sport recovers with integrity”, reported Gambling Insider.
