Finnish gambling operators, Veikkaus have announced that they are holding ‘co-operation negotiations’ with their staff for the temporary lay off owing to COVID-19 induced shut down.

The company that also enjoys monopoly in the region stated that they are likely to lay off 800 employees temporarily as they are forced to shut down their retail slot operations.

The Finnish authorities reported that corona virus is spreading in Central Ostrobothnia, South Karelia and South Savo regions of Finland at an ‘accelerating rate’ and most of the parts will remain in shut down mode.

Calvin Ayre reported the Veikkaus senior VP Channels & Sales Jari Heino’s statement: “COVID-19 had “driven the entire society to the wall” and the company’s main focus had to be “the health of our employees and customers.”

Heino added, “there was no indication when the shuttered retail operations might reopen, so the negotiations with staff are intended to “realize the best possible plans and solutions” for all concerned”, reported Calvin Ayre.
