Goa Police busted two separate gambling rackets in Goa and arrested a total of 8 persons in the raid.

In both the incidents the people were found accepting bets on IPL matches from across India. They had been doing this since many days.

In one incident, the Goa Police Crime Branch raided a hotel and arrested three persons namely, Sandeep Patel, Krishnakant and Bhoja Bhopal Yadav, reported Hindustan Times.

Superintendent of Police Shobit Saksena stated that, “They would register these bets on a software to calculate winnings at the end of each game. The trio is a habitual gang of bookies and has been operating for the last four years. Every year, they establish base at different places in India. At the beginning of each season they accept deposits from interested customers and at the end of the season, settle accounts as per the software’s calculation,” as reported by Hindustan Times (October 2, 2020).

In another incident, the police had arrested 5 persons a day before the previous incident.  Those arrested were Raju Singh (25) Mohit Kumar (21) Ravi Mamtani (30) Sagar Singh Rathore (28), all from Rajasthan, one Suraj Soni (28) from Nepal. They were arrested from Candolim in Goa.

The police seized cash amounting to Rs 1.15 Lakh (two raids combined) and also recovered laptops, routers, mobile phones etc.
