IPL 2020: Betting gang arrested in Odisha and Telangana; 18 held, Rs 3 Lakh seized

Aska police arrested three people from Ganjam district of Odisha for betting on IPL 2020 matches.

The accused have been identified as Ajay Gauda, Binod Parida and Krushna Swain from Pakela Palli village under the Aska police station, reported the Pioneer.

The alleged accused were acting as agents and collecting money from people. They were investing the money on online betting websites for IPL 2020.

The police due to absence of physical assembly on part of the accused could not trace gambling aspect as the bets were placed online. However, police managed to seize cash of Rs 1,27,450, five mobile phones and some documents from the possession of the three accused.

In another event in Telangana, Ramagundam Commissionerate police held 15 members of a betting gang in CCC Naspur, Mancherial district.

Additional DCP (administration) N Ashok KumarĀ told the media that the people taken into custody have been identified as Jabri Iqbal, Jabri Hadhi of Naspur, a priest in Srirampurcolony Hanuman temple Kommera Vijay, fitter in Srirampur singareni workshop MD Faheem, Sunkari Sagar of Naspur, Anumas Sarath Kumar of Mancherial, Neduri Srinivas, Aggu Swamy, Aggu Kiran, Chittyala Prashanth, Surimilla Karthik, Chatharju Sarath Chandra, Macherla Sai, lorry driver Kota Uday, reported Telengana Today (October 20, 2020).

The gang was targeting youth and daily wage labourers for their purposes. The police recovered Rupees 1.4 Lakh and 15 mobile phones from the possession of the accused persons.
