Headlines regarding betting on IPL 2020 matches and people getting arrested for these betting activities have been making rounds each week.

Police across the country have been raiding hotels, resorts, flats and arresting people for placing bets on IPL 2020 matches.

In many such instances, people have been getting caught red-handed either running entire gambling network or placing bets via bookies, online applications etc.

A lot of money in cash, mobile phones, television sets, and laptops has been getting seized in the process.

Despite these continuous crackdowns, these illegal activities do not seem to stop and continue to grow across the nation.

In line with above backdrop, in last 24 hours, police of different states namely, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Hyderabad, Kolkata and more have conducted raids at different locations and have arrested several people for betting on IPL matches.

The Indian Wire had already reported about arrests made in this connection in Goa’s Candolim area on October 2, 2020.

Recently, in Hyderabad, 13 persons were arrested and approximately Rupees 22 Lakh were seized overall. 7 persons were arrested from Balanagar Zone alone. Other places of arrest included Red Hill area where people were apprehended by Hyderabad Police.

Zee Business News reported about arrests in Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata and Delhi too, where 8 people were arrested from UP.  5 belonged to Meerut city and 3 belonged to Varanasi.

Kolkata Police apprehended people from Hare Street, Park Street, Jadavpur and Salt Lake areas on basis on tip-off by an informant.

Regarding arrests made in Delhi, Atul Thakur, DCP, South Delhi stated that, “In Rajpur Khurd village, six persons were found sitting on a lawn with a laptop in which entries on bets were maintained. In one mobile phone, a live cricket match was being telecast and on another landline phone the rates of bets were being announced”.

So far, plethora of instances has popped up where police bust betting networks and continues to do so.
