The Khammam village of Telangana has been a witness to fanatical involvement of youth in Indian Premier League tournament always. This has in the past lead to betting in IPL and further turned to gambling addiction amongst youth of the village.
This time however, Telangana Police has been taking all precautionary measures and has increased vigil in Andhra Pradesh-Telangana border areas such as Aswaraopet, Dammapet, and Sattupalli, reported the New Indian Express.
The police reported that there are 12 lakh smart phone users in the district of Khammam and huge amount of money exchanges hands during IPL due to online betting. Last year, it was record Rupees 15 crore that was exchanged in online betting in the district.
The gambling addiction has become prominent amongst youth and college-going students and often leads to these activities in villages also.
In light of above figures, the Andhra Pradesh police has been taking stringent measures, precautionary in nature, to combat gambling and betting in the district. The Hotel and Lodge owners have been informed and warned about the said activities as precautionary step.
