In a bid to increase tax revenue, Macau is studying and considering prospects of legalizing online gambling in the country.

The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) director Adriano Ho while confirming the new raised concerns over potential money laundering offences., reported European Gaming.

Ho while keeping an open mind about the prospects of legalizing online gambling requested suggestions from civil society and legislators on how to tackle problem gambling and money laundering issues.

Ho was responding to question posed by legislator Jose Pereira Coutinho on increasing tax revenue during times of COVID, where travel restrictions have severely impacted Macau’s revenue.

Majority of the countries are struggling to keep their economy on foot and are devising ways to generate revenue. Legalization gambling and betting has become a popular means for generating revenue amongst various nations.
