Macau Slot Co has lost its monopoly over Macau sports betting and lottery. It however, has gained three year license extension for its Macau license by the govt. The license is set to expire in the year 2024.
Macau Slot, which offers sports betting on games such as football, basketball etc., can no longer provide exclusivity in sports betting and instant lottery.
It was reported by Gambling Insider that Wang Changbin, director of the Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies at Macao Polytechnic Institute, believes that this could be a “signal that more operators might be allowed into the sports betting market in Macau in the future.”
Experts believe that by issuing a non-exclusive licence for Macau Slot, the Government “shows the general line they want to take on general affairs – public interest above all else.” It has also been reported that Macau is planning to launch a public consultation to revise the gambling laws.
