The Governor of Nebraska, Gov. Pete Ricketts, has the final ball in his court with respect to sports betting legislation.

The State Legislators, both House and Senate have approved the sports betting legislation permitting retail sports wagering in the state. The Bill LB 561 regulates sports betting and wagering activities in the state and has various companion bills as full console.

Now the future of the sports betting legislation rests in the hands of the Governor, who otherwise has been against the legalization of sports betting in Nebraska.

As per Gambling.com, on earlier occasion he had stated: “We already fight gambling addiction here in our state. This will make it so much worse. Over the years, Nebraska has decided against allowing casino gambling in the Good Life — and for good reason.”

“Gambling can ruin families, hurt communities, and pile on new costs to the state. By keeping Nebraska casino-free, our state has minimized the social harms associated with problem gambling. In fact, research shows that Nebraska ranks as the fourth-least gambling-addicted state in America.”

With this backdrop in mind, it has to be seen that whether he approves the Bill or vetoes it. In case, the governor vetoes the Bill, the state’s legislature can override his decision the next day before the end of the session on June 10.
