MGM Resorts International and its insurers have been directed by a Nevada Court to pay an $800m settlement to the relatives and victims of the 2017 Last Vegas strip shooting.

Chief Judge Linda Bell at the Clark County District Court while delivering the judgment on third anniversary of the shootout stated that negotiations had to be carried out for months and it was conducted by experienced mediators who assisted in the process.

The judge noted that the MGM resorts will pay compensation out of its insurance money and the settlement is sufficient enough to cover personal injury claims of the victims and relatives.

Notably, on October 1, 2017, a shootout had taken place in an open-air festival where the gunman had shot 58 people and had injured more than 850 people.

The MGM Resorts got dragged in the matter because the killer shot from 32nd floor of the MGM Resorts’ Mandalay Bay.  Route 91 Harvest music festival was taking place near MGM Resorts’ Mandalay Bay, where mass shooting occurred. 22,000 people are said to have been in attendance of the festival.

The gunman was found to have fired ammunition from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay, with more than 22,000 people estimated to have been attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival.

While MGM Resorts acknowledged no liability, it will utilize its insurance fund to pay out $751m and pay $49 m itself.

MGM issued official statement stating that, “We are grateful that the decision brings families, victims and the community closer to closure. It is especially meaningful that the decision comes one day before the third anniversary of the incident, a time of great sadness and reflection”, reported Gambling Insider.
