Tamil Nadu’s regional political party PMK’s founder leader S Ramadoss on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 urged Union Government and the governments of all the states to ban online gambling.

Ramadoss in his statement, stated about the ill-effects of gambling and how it leads to addiction and destroys families.

In saying so, he mentioned about a man who had committed suicide in Puducherry after he failed to pay back the amount to his lenders.

Ramadoss mentioned that the person had borrowed more than Rupees 30 Lakh to feed his gambling addiction and ended up taking his own life.

He emphasized upon the fact that gambling destroys families faster than alcoholism does and therefore all the states should ban online gambling.

He lamented that Centre and the States have not yet banned online gambling while physical form of gambling or public gambling has been banned under the law.

Ramadoss stated that the governments are failing to address an important area and are not framing requisite regulations in this direction.

Notably, he had warned about ill-effects of online gambling much earlier than the impacts were actually visible.

He also mentioned that centre and the states should take note of the fact that Madras High Court and various other High Courts have directed either to ban online gambling or formulate clear regulations rather than staying mute spectators to the issue.
