In the Benalmadena Council of Spain, the Council voted unanimously in favor of new measures that aim to prevent problem gambling.

It was mooted by the Council that one in four gamblers turn out to be gambling addicts and resort to crimes that include stealing  to pay for the habit, compulsive betting and problems with debt.

The council, as a measure to combat addictive gambling, voted that the number of bookmakers that are allowed to trade in the municipality shall be restricted.

In another measure, the betting establishments shall be compulsorily made to be established at a distance of 700 meters away from the educational institutions.

It also pledged that the members would pester the high authorities to prohibit sports betting terminals in gaming halls, bingo halls, casinos and bars etc. as reported by Euro Weekly News.
