Taking note of the direction issued by Madras High Court to take appropriate steps regarding online gambling, Tamil Nadu government has decided to ban online gambling expressly.

The govt. will pass a legislation in this regard, where gambling and betting via mobile applications, websites etc. would be banned.

K Palaniswami tweeted, “The Tamil Nadu government taking a note of the situation has decided to swiftly pass legislation for arresting people running the apps and those playing the gambling games that involve betting money”.

Notably, more than 10 people have committed suicide due to gambling addiction and losses incurred because of gambling.

The majority of people are daily wage workers of people belonging to middle class.

Madras HC has also issued notice to Virat Kohli, Saurav Gangul, Tammanah Bhatia, rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj for endorsing online fantasy gaming platforms involving monetary stakes.

DMK leader Stalin had also written to Tamil Nadu government for banning online gambling.
